Summary
Chompy uses the front TrueDepth camera on supported iPhones to detect chewing during a supervised meal session. The app is designed so sensitive sensing data stays on the device.
Chompy is not an advertising product and does not sell personal information. It does not use third-party advertising SDKs.
Camera, TrueDepth, face, and chewing data
Chompy uses camera permission for chewing detection during meal sessions. On supported iPhones, Chompy uses Apple's TrueDepth camera through ARKit face tracking while a parent-started meal session is active.
During a meal session, Chompy processes transient face-tracking values in memory, including jaw movement, face-tracked or face-lost state, head motion, timestamps for local processing, and approximate screen distance. Chompy uses these values only to classify coarse meal states such as chewing detected, no-chew timeout, sensor running, and face visible or not visible.
Chompy does not store, log, send, or sell camera frames, depth maps, face landmarks, ARKit blend shapes, face embeddings, raw chewing measurements, raw mouth openness, screen-distance estimates, TrueDepth values, ARKit values, or other raw face-derived sensor values.
The product interface uses coarse session states. Raw detector thresholds, raw openness, confidence values, sensor internals, and face data are not shown in the production product UI.
Local data and retention
Chompy may store settings on the device, including parent-approved YouTube video IDs, parent PIN data, language and diagnostics preferences, cached subscription entitlement state, local aggregate meal statistics, and session tuning settings.
Parent PINs, approved video information, local meal statistics, camera frames, face data, raw chewing measurements, and raw sensor-derived values are not sent to Oreum, Inc. servers by Chompy.
Diagnostics
Diagnostics sharing is off by default. If a user turns diagnostics on, Chompy may use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics for privacy-safe aggregate events and crash diagnostics.
Diagnostics do not include camera frames, face data, raw chewing measurements, mouth openness, screen-distance estimates, TrueDepth or ARKit values, PINs, YouTube video information, local meal statistics, or child account information. Diagnostics are used to understand app stability, permission recovery, unsupported device states, and general reliability.
Users can turn diagnostics off in the app settings. When diagnostics are off, Chompy disables analytics and crash collection for future diagnostics.
YouTube playback
Chompy can display a parent-approved YouTube video during a meal session. When YouTube content is loaded or played, YouTube and Google services may receive requests needed to provide that video playback under their own terms and privacy practices.
Parents are responsible for selecting appropriate YouTube content for the meal session.
Choices and deletion
Users can remove local app data by deleting Chompy from the device. Parent Mode also provides a reset flow that can erase the parent PIN and approved videos stored on the device.
